Days after the Mumbai Police  Crime Branch filed the chargesheet in the Baba Siddique murder case, the NCP leader’s son Zeeshan Siddique Thursday said that the police have not questioned the builders whom he named as suspects in the case.

Zeeshan, who met Joint Commissioner (crime) Lakhmi Gautam Thursday, also questioned how the police had ruled out the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) property dispute angle which he believes was the reason behind his father’s murder.

In the over 4,500-page chargesheet filed before a court here January 6, the crime branch had said that it was Anmol Bishoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who masterminded the attack as Siddique was close to actor Salman Khan, who has been on the gang’s radar.

Speaking to the media after meeting the joint commissioner, Zeeshan  said, “Since the chargesheet has been filed, I want to ask the police if they have interrogated the builders whom we suspect to be linked to my father’s murder. I had mentioned their names in my statement to the police as well. We have, however, found that their interrogation has not been done. I will meet our leader (NCP chief) Ajit Pawar and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, to know why the builder lobby, which I suspect is behind my father’s murder, has not been investigated and their statement has not been recorded.”

He added, “When they don’t have Anmol Bishnoi’s custody, and other main accused like Shubham Lonkar and Jisan Akhtar are on the run, how did the police conclude that the motive was not linked to the builder lobby? Why are some builders being protected ? I believe CM Fadnavis too will ask the police the same questions as to why they did not question the builders whom we suspect. We will get to the bottom of this and even approach the courts,” a police source said.

Sources in the crime branch said that they arrested two of the shooters from the spot and based on their probe they arrested a total 26 persons.

“We did probe some of the names mentioned by Zeeshan. However, we did not find enough evidence to call them in for questioning. We believe we have the accused involved in the case and the motive. However, the investigation has not been closed and if evidence is found against any of the names mentioned by Zeeshan, we will question them as well.”

The police said that they did not find any evidence of any builder lobby in connection with the murder.

So far, the Mumbai police arrested 26 accused in the case and applied the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act against the accused.

The police mentioned that Salman Khan, who has been in the crosshairs of the Bishnoi gang for allegedly killing a black buck, was the initial target.

Since his security was strong, they decided to murder Baba Siddique who was close to the actor.
