NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad suspended, Opposition boycotts winter session

On Friday, Awhad made a remark that invited criticism from the members of the ruling BJP and Shiv Sena who demanded his suspension from the assembly.

The state government on Friday suspended NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad for allegedy using ‘unparliamentary’ language in the state legislative assembly, leading to Congress and NCP boycotting the winter session in Nagpur.

On Friday, Awhad made a remark that invited criticism from the members of the ruling BJP and Shiv Sena who demanded his suspension from the assembly.

NCP leader Ajit Pawar expressed surprise at the ‘harsh decision’ taken by the government to suspend Awhad from attending the winter session in Nagpur.

Pawar said, “I was ready to apologise on his behalf for the uncharitable remark. But that does not mean he should be suspended. We will not cooperate with the government. We will boycott the remaining period of the winter session.”

The session, which began on December 8, is scheduled to continue till December 24, according to parliamentary affairs minister Girish Bapat.
