The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) today arrested three men in the process of making an arms transaction.

Haji Mohammed,Afzal Ahmed Sheikh (38) and Suleman Patel (25) were caught in a trap with two revolvers, one Chinese-made and the other US-made,along with six cartridges.

Haji Mohammed is a history sheeter with cases of extortion against him at J J Marg police station and at Byculla. The ATS said he had been told to pick up the weapons from a contact from Goregaon by his brother-in-law Ariz Mirza, one of the accused in the JJ Hospital shootout of 1992 and still on the wanted list. During interrogation,Mohammed allegedly told the ATS that Mirza is now settled in China and runs the operation from there.

Suleman Patel (25) is allegedly a member of Chhota Shakeel’s gang and wanted for 14 offences.

The ATS suspects that following the delivery of the arms,a “serious offence” on the orders of Chotta Shakeel and Faheem Machmach would have followed. :We are probing to find more,” said Parambir Singh, additional commissioner,ATS.
