While works had been suspended after May owing to the onset of monsoon, senior BMC officials on Tuesday said that work on the project will commence from October 1.

Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar said, “In a bid to complete ongoing works, we will immediately take up works on 574 roads, which have partially completed roads from October 1. However, to prevent any inconvenience for people, the work will be taken up in a staggered manner. Alongside this, we will also take up roads where no work has been started so far.”

Among  the several roads where work will commence after the withdrawal of monsoon in October include Juhu side strip roads, Khetwadi road, Tejpal road, Pali Mala road etc.

Bangar said that the civic body is likely to complete the entire phase I works by May 2026 while a phenomenal progress will also be recorded in phase II, which is likely to be executed to completion by first half of 2027.

Meanwhile, nearly 25 roads which had previously been earmarked for concretisation have also been deleted from the civic plans.

“At least 25 roads have been deleted from the plan in cases where we have received requests from citizens and we found them valid, or in areas where the width of the road was too narrow. Besides, if we see difficulties in removing encroachments, we have decided to fix those roads in asphalt, thereby excluding them from the project purview,” said a civic official.
