Fire at IPL chief Modis bungalow
A Major fire at Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modis Anand Bungalow on Saturday gutted the top floor of the two-storey building in Gandhigram Road area of Juhu. No one was present in the house when the fire broke out,fire officials said. It took three hours for eight fire tenders to douse the fire,suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. Sources put the approximate damage to property at Rs 5-6 lakh. Modi was unavailable for comment.
Four get bail in murder case
THE Bombay HC on Saturday granted bail to four sentenced to life for kidnapping and murdering a 14-year-old Raj,a standard IX student,in November 2009. A division bench of Justice J N Patel and Justice Amjad Sayed granted them bail on a surety of Rs 25,000 each. Shinde Sayed Aslam Sayed Jafar,Sayed Akhtar Sayed Jafar,Sunil alias Karan Mahipal Valmiki and Govind Shinde,had moved the bail application . Seven people had been sentenced to life,in the case.
Drunk driving: cops arrest 147
Mumbai Traffic Police arrested 147 drivers for drunken driving on Friday night. Of the arrested,82 appeared before the Special Metropolitan Magistrate and 63 cases were adjourned to the next date. Two drivers have been issued warrants. Licences of 80 drivers have been suspended for six months. This year,around 12,701 cases were registered till Saturday. Around 19,956 drivers got simple imprisonment and 19,316 licences have been suspended, said a traffic cop.
