HC tells state to file affidavit on sexual harassment cells

The Bombay High Court directed the state government to file an affidavit stating if all police stations have set up a complaint cell at their level to deal with sexual harassment complaints at workplaces,as laid down by the Supreme Court in the Vishaka case. Chief Public Prosecutor P A Pol said,We will file the affidavit in two weeks on the prayer made by the petitioner and as directed by the court. A woman constable,presently serving in the Government Railway Police (GRP) and a victim of sexual harassment,moved the high court stating that guidelines need to be followed.

She said on August 18 she went to the ladies room of the police station to change her clothes,but found it dirty. She decided to change in the computer room,where another constable posted at the same police station,allegedly molested her.

AI passengers stuck in snag-hit plane for 5 hrs

An Air India Express flight to Trichy from Dubai,with 172 passengers on board,was diverted to Mumbai on Wednesday night after the aircraft developed a technical snag mid-air. Passengers were stuck in the aircraft for five hours as the technical staff repaired the aircraft late at night. The aircraft that landed in Mumbai around 11 pm took off for Trichy at 4 am. Passengers did not want to deplane as they wanted to leave as soon as possible, said the AI spokesperson.

The flight was diverted to Mumbai. It was a local standby,not full emergency landing, said a MIAL spokesperson. AIDS awareness rallyon December 5

The Navjeevan Centre,which works with women and children of sex workers,has organised an AIDS awareness rally in collaboration with the Women and Child Welfare Department,Thane,to mark the World AIDS Day.

The rally will start at 11 am on December 5 from Mashoba Maidan in Thane via Lourdes Church in Murbad and from there to Purnima Junction and Purandare Colony.

A street play has also been organised at select venues,including in front of Lourdes School and Purnima Junction.
