Newsline continues the admission story, seen through the eyes of 16-year-old Gunjan Malhotra, her friends and family
Over 2,21,000 students had completed filling the online admission forms on the website http://fyjc.org.in/mumbai and 96,748 forms had been submitted at the submission centres by Tuesday evening. Students are now eagerly awaiting admission to the college of their choice.
Gunjan Malhotra, student of Guru Har Kishan High School,Santacruz, submitted her form earlier this week. The format of the form is such that it gives one plenty of choices. It is also easy to understand. I am glad that I do not have to go to colleges for submitting the forms, she said. She plans to take up arts in one of the top colleges. Gunjan chose twelve options in the colleges category in her order of preference.
Some students like Joanna Coats,a Vile Parle resident and a student of St Theresa,Santacruz, were unable to choose submission centres near their residences. I tried to select centres in K and P west wards, however,I encountered some problem on the website and hence had to choose a centre in Bandra, she said.
Meanwhile, the pending decision on the 90 per cent quota for state board students in junior colleges has kept students on tenterhooks. I discuss the issue with my classmates everyday. We are extremely curious to know what the decision will be and we hope that it is in our favour, Gunjan said. The court has also imposed a stay order on admissions to junior colleges because of which minority colleges, which were supposed to finish allocating admissions in the minority quota before the other admissions, have been unable to do so. Joanna said,I have applied to St Xaviers,St Andrews,Sophia College in the minority quota. But I was told that admissions cannot begin as yet. The application process was easy but I am worried about actual admission now.
