The Crime Intelligence Unit of the Mumbai Crime Branch probing the fake visa racket allegedly being operated by Navy officers, arrested four persons, including one more Navy officer, on Saturday and Sunday.

The racket, allegedly involved in sending people to South Korea using forged documents, would tell them to tear up their visa papers once they reached there and seek asylum, which would then be followed by citizenship.

According to crime branch, Sub-Lieutenant Braham Jyoti, posted in INS Shivaji Lonavla, said to be the mastermind of the racket, was arrested along with his associate Simran Teji.

Both were produced before the court on Sunday and were remanded to police custody till July 5.

Sources said that Simran allegedly opened a bank account in her mother’s name and linked the account with Braham Jyoti’s mobile number. Braham would use this account for transactions related to the alleged frauds. Sources have claimed that around `25-30 lakh have been deposited in the said bank account. The crime branch has also arrested suspects Deepak Dogra and Ravi Kumar from Jammu and Kashmir who are being brought to Mumbai.

“Ravi Kumar is a beneficiary who wanted to leave for South Korea on a visa acquired by submitting forged documents. Deepak Dogra appears to have been monitoring the overall operation and identifying potential targets who wanted to go abroad on work visas,” stated crime branch officers.

All the accused have been charged under relevant sections of IPC and Passport Act for cheating and forgery.
