Anjuman-Islam used to be champions in the schools cricket,but of late the school had lost the appetite to win. So it was pretty surprising when they defeated the current schools champions Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) by 87 runs in the semifinals of the Poinsur Gymkhana inter-school cricket tournament at their ground at Kandivali today. And the boy responsible for Anjumans victories so far has been Chandra Prakash,who for the second time in a row was adjudged the man-of-the-match for his allround show.He top scored with 45 and then captured dtwo for 17. In the quarterfinals also,he had hit up an unbeaten 52,plus had two wickets asd well as Anjuman had defeated Andheris Hansraj Morarjee.
.Batting first after winning the toss,Anjuman boys hit up 175 for nine off the allotted 30 overs. Chandra continued to show good form both with bat and ball He hit up 45 with four fours and two sixes. Ammer Shaikh (40),Rashid Khan 24 were the other run-getters. In reply,Rizvi outfit just collapsed for 89 in 232.2 overs. Sharif Shaikh (3-17),Chandra Prakash 2-17),Parvez Khan (2-10) shared the bowling honours.
Anjuman will take on Swami Vivekananad (Kandivali) for the coveted honours. The Vivekanand school after being bowled out for 150,hit back to skitlle out their opponents Oxford Public for 40 runs.
A half century by Chandra Prakash featured in favourite Anjuman-Islam (Fort)s narrow seven-run win overAl-Barkat (Kurla) to enter the semifinals of the Chandra who hit two sixes and three fours in his 52 saw his side making 142 for nine off the alloted 30 overs. As the Kurla outfit went in to chase 143 for win,Chandra,bowling medium pacers,bagged two for 17 off six overs. He was well supported by Hasir Dafedar,who had two for 17 off the allotted six overs.
