BRIGHT specks of colourful clothing and dull gold accents dot the pristine white interiors of the new store by couturiers,Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. Situated on the ground floor of Om Chambers in south Mumbais posh Kemps Corner area, this 1,100-square-feet store is a treat for lovers of fashion and luxury. In fact,Abu-Sandeep as the duo is fondly called decided to time the launch of the store with the unveiling of their latest collection, titled Seyf. Essentially an ode to chikankari, the line that has both menswear and womenswear takes forward their longstanding affair with this Indian embroidery technique. In keeping with tradition, this segment is dominated by pastels and shades of white from ivory to crème. The idea was to have a fun yet light, wearable line for summer, says Sandeep.
Intricate zardozi and resham work on fabrics such as Banarasi cotton, crepes, georgettes, linen and silks feature prominently as do silhouettes of lehenga-cholis,saris,salwar-kurtas and tunics. Heavy bridal wear is a big part of the collection but theres a wide variety for pre-wedding occasions as well. Also available for sale are copies of the designers latest two-volume tome,India Fantastique. It finds a place of pride alongside their first book,A Celebration of Style,on a copper shelf that has been painted dull gold.
