Akshay leads Navy’s charge

Navy Children School advanced into the Mumbai Schools Sports Association boys' under-16 Division II semifinal at the Castrol-MSSA centre in Azad Maidan on Wednesday.

Navy Children School advanced into the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) boys’ under-16 Division II semifinal at the Castrol-MSSA centre in Azad Maidan on Wednesday. And they had to keep their nerves in a thrilling penalty shootout to overcome Don Bosco from Borivali with the final margin reading 5-4. The game was locked at 1-1 after Akshay Saini and Shahshank Nayak netted a goal each for Navy and Don Bosco respectively. Saini,Anchit Kumar,Bosco Chidmand and Abhijay Kapoor converted their penalties for the victors while Nayak,Wayne Trinidade and Michael Nathan were on target for Don Bosco.

St Xavier’s from Bhandup,Hiranandani Foundation from Powai,Colaba Municipal School and St Theresa High School from Bandra meanwhile cruised past their boys’ under-16 Division III quarterfinals. Viraj Dahanukar and Rahul Unnithan scored a goal each for St Xavier’s in their 2-1 win over St Anthony from Vakola. Vikram Deb and Aditya Tupe were the match-winners for Hiranandani against Arya Vidyamandir. Colaba had it pretty easy with a 3-1 win over Cambridge School with Mandar Kamble,Maruti Chavan and Ashotosh Gaikwad.
