Jawale allegedly demanded Rs 8 lakh as bribe from a construction businessman in lieu of sanctioning permit. He allegedly demanded the bribe through a clerk Shridhar Deshpande (48), who has also been made accused in the case. Both are on the run.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, earlier known as Ahmednagar, has booked Ahmednagar Municipal Commissioner Pankaj Jawale (47) in a bribery case.
Jawale allegedly demanded Rs 8 lakh as bribe from a construction businessman in lieu of sanctioning permit. He allegedly demanded the bribe through a clerk Shridhar Deshpande (48), who has also been made accused in the case. Both are on the run.
An officer from the Ahmednagar unit of ACB confirmed the development and said that an offence has been registered at the Topkhana police station, Ahmednagar.
According to the ACB, the complainant is a partner in a construction firm that has bought a 2,260.22 sqm plot in Nalegaon area. The builder wanted to construct a building there along with his partner. Hence he had applied for a construction permit online on March 18 this year, ACB sources said.
As per the complainant’s allegations, Deshpande sought Rs 9.30 lakh for sanctioning construction permit. As the builder was not willing to pay any bribe for the permit, he approached the Jalna ACB and filed a complaint.
On June 19 and 20, Rs 8 lakh bribe was allegedly demanded Deshpande from the builder. The ACB found that he did it at Jawale’s behest.
After due verification of the complaint the ACB was planning to catch the accused red handed. However, Jawale and Deshmukh got wind of the ACB action and went on leave together on Thursday. When ACB teams reached their residences on Thursday morning they were not there.
The ACB has sealed Javale’s residence and cabin in Ahmednagar Municipal Corporation and will search them in his presence. ACB team searched Deshpande’s house and found Rs 93,000 cash, ornaments and documents pertaining to nine properties.
