AAP protests NEET-UG irregularities in Mumbai, says it is a ‘multi-crore’ scam by Centre

'The NEET centre where six students got full marks is now being alleged to be connected to a BJP leader. This is simply unacceptable,' said Sandeep Katke, vice-president of AAP Mumbai.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday held a protest in Mumbai against the alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) examination. The party also alleged that the NEET-UG irregularities are a part of a multi-crore scam by the BJP-led central government.

In a statement, the AAP’s Mumbai unit said, “Modi Sarkar 3.0 started with the NEET scam on counting day itself. One would have thought the popular mandate and wide erosion of electoral support, would have resulted in reduction of arrogance and brazenness on the part of the BJP, but the NEET scam has proven that the BJP is simply incorrigible.”

AAP Mumbai working president Ruben Mascarenhas said, “Twenty-four lakh students worked really hard and studied hard to pursue a career in medical education, which is a privilege. In India, when a student prepares for an exam, the whole family supports the student. The NEET scam is playing with the future of not just 24 lakh Medico aspirants but all of young India. The NEET scam is a national disgrace. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan must immediately resign.”

The party leader further said, “On one hand we have Manish Sisodia, who brought about an education revolution with the Delhi model but landed up in jail in a fake case, on the other hand, we have an incompetent union minister (Dharmendra) Pradhan, who despite police evidence, denies even the existence of a paper leak.”

Every scam in this country, big or small, is somehow connected to the BJP and to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said Sandeep Katke, vice-president of AAP Mumbai. “The NEET centre where six students got full marks is now being alleged to be connected to a BJP leader. This is simply unacceptable,” said Katke.

Katke further said the NEET-UG irregularities have raised serious questions on the merit and quality of medical professionals being churned out.

“We demand that the NEET exam be scrapped and a fresh exam be held. There must be a court-monitored independent investigation and exemplary action must be taken against those involved, especially those that are from the BJP,” said Paul Raphael, Executive Committee Member, AAP Mumbai.

The NEET-UG exam saw around 24 lakh students appear for the exam across 4,750 centres. When the results were out, 67 students, including six from a single centre in Faridabad, scored a perfect 720. This led to suspicions of the examination being rigged. Allegations of paper leaks and major irregularities have also surfaced, leading to widespread protests.
