This will allow the state government to prosecute them in case of non-compliance of rules (Representational/File) The Maharashtra government has formed a six-member committee to formulate draft rules for operation of app and web-based cab aggregators in the state.
According to a Government Resolution issued on Thursday, the six-member committee will be headed by former IAS officer Sudhir Shrivastava. It will study the Bombay High Court and Supreme Court orders about the rules of cab aggregators and will prepare a report with their recommendations, which will be submitted to the government within three months.
Senior officials from state Traffic and Transport departments will be part of the committee along with Shrivastava.
According to the GR, the guidelines for app-based cab aggregators will be called Maharashtra Regulation of Aggregators rules and under this, the driver partners of all the cab aggregators will be brought under the ambit of the Maharashtra government. This will allow the state government to prosecute them in case of non-compliance of rules. An official said while the rules would be mostly as per the guidelines of the central government, there will also be some additional rules and guidelines.
“The new rules and guidelines may have clauses to put a cap on pricing like abnormal surge in fare, commuters redressal system and other safety measures such as installing a panic button. The recommendation will be made considering the ongoing issues and the central government’s rules and guidelines,” said an official.
