Six persons died and five were injured in two road accidents on the Kalamboli stretch of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway early on Saturday. The deceased included five members of a family and a 25-year-old biker.
The Kalamboli police said the accident took place around 5.15 am on Saturday when a speeding Mahindra Xylo carrying ten members of a family rammed a truck. The truck driver escaped after the accident. A case has been registered against the driver and efforts are on to trace him,they said. The occupants of the car were rushed to hospital where four of them were declared dead. Another member of the family succumbed to injuries later.
The deceased have been identified as Anil Lokhande (30),his wife Sujata (28),son Abhishek (3),sister-in-law Rani (25) and mother Latika (57).
Those injured were Shubham Lokhande (7),Gayatri Lokhande (4),Pragati Lokhande (5),Gauri Lokhande (6) and Sunil Lokhande (33).
In another accident,Kishor Pawar of Kopar Khairane,died after a speeding truck rammed his motorcycle. The truck driver,Brijesh Pandey (49), of Ghatkopar has been arrested.
