48 new ATVMs at 31 stations on CR, Harbour lines

This initiative came after removal of 115 completely damaged ATVMs.

The Central Railway is set to install at least 48 versatile (currency notes/coin based) automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs) at 31 railway stations next week. The ATVMs being developed by CRIS will let commuters buy their destination season tickets through existing smart cards too, besides cash.

“The ATVMs will installed across both Central and Harbour line railway stations. At present, 31 railway stations on both lines are included. It is going to be installed inside the ticket booking windows of the selected railway stations. This is done to ensure safety of the new ATVMs as they will have cash inside,” said a senior officer from commercial department of the CR.

He added: “The commuters using smart cards can also re-charge from these machines. A commuter needs to give the exact tender for the tickets, which will be in the denominations of Rs 5 to Rs 1,000””

This initiative came after removal of 115 completely damaged ATVMs. There are around 550 ATVMs across the suburban railway stations of both Central and Harbour lines.
