3 cops,‘social worker’ held for duping shopowner

A self-proclaimed social worker and three police constables were arrested by the Nehru Nagar police for allegedly cheating a shop-owner of Rs 5 lakh,the police said.

A self-proclaimed social worker and three police constables were arrested by the Nehru Nagar police for allegedly cheating a shop-owner of Rs 5 lakh,the police said.

“Last September,Ambalal Patel,whose daughter had allegedly eloped and married against his wishes,had filed a complaint with the Nehru Nagar police that Yusuf Patel,a self-proclaimed social worker,had promised to bring his daughter back if he paid him Rs 5 lakh. At the time of the money exchanging hands,three accomplices of the accused were present. During investigation we found that the accomplices were policemen,” said DCP (zone VI) Dilip Sawant. Police have also arrested head constable Rohit Sawant,constable Vijay Makare and constable Bharat Pandit.
