2nd merit list of FYJC admissions in Mumbai sees marginal dip in cut-off marks, over 73,000 allotted seats
At Mumbai’s H R College, which is among those popular for the commerce stream, the cut-off for the FYJC admission in the second merit list has dropped marginally from 93 per cent to 92.4 per cent in the second merit list.

The second merit list for First Year Junior College (FYJC, Class 11) admissions in Mumbai was declared on Wednesday. There is a marginal drop in the cut-off scores of popular colleges in the city when compared to the cut-offs in the first merit list declared on June 27.
At H R College, which is among those popular for the commerce stream, the cut-off has dropped marginally from 93 per cent to 92.4 per cent in the second merit list.
Similarly, at St Xavier’s College, which is the most sought-after for Arts, the stream’s cut-off in the second merit list is 92.8 per cent which is merely any dip from 93.4 per cent in the first merit list. Whereas, at Ramnivas Ruia Junior College, the cut-off for science is 92.4 per cent in the second merit list which had closed admissions at 93.4 per cent in the first merit list.
According to colleges, a marginal drop in the cut-off scores indicate that there are many high scoring takers for these most sought-after seats.
Principal of H R College, Dr Pooja Ramchandani said, “Generally, when candidates are allotted seats in a popular city college, they tend to confirm instead of taking a chance in the next round. As seats in these colleges fill-up faster, the cut-off scores remain high.”
Ramchandani added, “At H R College, we hardly had 30-40 seats to fill up in the second round. Thus, there was barely any dip in the cut-off marks.”
In the second merit list, there were 1,93,792 seats available across the colleges in Mumbai. Out of the 1,75,008 candidates who had applied for this round, 73,438 have been allotted seats in various junior colleges.
Among the total allotments in this round, 20,030 students were allotted seats in their first preferred colleges. All these students are required to mandatorily confirm their admissions, otherwise they will be out of the system for the next round.
While 13,469 were allotted seats in college of their second preference, 1,088 were allotted seats in their third preferred colleges.
Candidates, at the time of applying for admissions, are supposed to fill ten options of colleges in the descending order of preference.
In the second merit list, the commerce stream saw the highest number of allotments at 43,367. This was followed by the science stream at 23,533 allotments and then Arts with 6,124 allotments. Even in the second round of admissions, students from the Maharashtra State Board were the highest takers at 67,386 of total allotments.
