THE NAVI MUMBAI police Monday arrested a 19 -year-old woman and her friend for allegedly murdering a cab driver who was blackmailing her and demanding sexual favours.

According to police, the woman, Rhea Sarkanyasingh, and her friend Vishal Shinde (21) had allegedly killed Surendra Pandey (43).
An officer said that Rhea hails from Punjab and had come to Ulwe Sector 24 a few weeks ago to earn a living.
Pandey used to drive Rhea’s cab and he offered her stay at his residence when she was looking for a place for accommodation, police said.
According to police, on April 2, when Vishal had come to meet Rhea at Pandey’s house, the cab driver allegedly shot some videos of the couple when they were intimate and blackmailed the woman demanding sexual favours, police said.
This led to a fight between them and the two accused allegedly hit the cabbie with a hammer and fled to Vishal’s house in Sangamner , police said.
After Vishal’s family convinced the duo to approach the police, they reached the Sangamner police station and informed police about the incident.
The Sangamner police contacted the Ulwe police in Navi Mumbai who went to the house and found the body of the deceased on April 6, four days after the murder.
A team from Navi Mumbai police went to Sangamner to get the custody of the couple in the murder case.
