A Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad team is now camping here to get details of the Bhaskar-Paresh kidnapping case,in which terrorists like Asif Raza Khan and Aftab Ansari were involved.
The ATS is seeking the case details as part of its ongoing investigation of the 13/7 Mumbai serial blasts. The Indian Mujahideen has been the prime suspect in the case and the homegrown terrorist outfit has been reportedly founded by one Amir Raza Khan,whose brother Asif Raza Khan a prime accused in the Bhaskar-Paresh kidnapping case was killed in an encounter with the Rajkot police.
According to a theory,Amir Raza Khan who has now shifted his base to Pakistan is one of the main founders of the IM and his aim was to avenge his brothers killing. For the same,he had planned serial bomb blasts in cities like Ahmedabad,Jaipur and Delhi in the past couple of years, a Rajkot crime branch officer said.
The ATS wants details about Asif,Aftab Ansari,Fazlu Rehman and other accused in the Bhaskar-Paresh kidnapping case, an officer said. Ansari,also the mastermind of the attack on the American Center in Kolkata,was the main conspirator and he had planned the kidnap along with Khan and some local goons besides demanding a ransom of Rs 10 crore.
Ansaris men had kidnapped Bhaskar,son of a jeweller,and his friend Paresh,a garment trader,from near Shimla Mirch Restaurant here on November 11,2000. Gujarat police had rescued Paresh after an encounter with the kidnappers in Bharuch on November 26,2000.
