1,300 CCTV cameras forMumbai marathon

Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni said they would also take help of the Quick Response Team and other paramilitary forces to maintain security.

The Mumbai Police this year will be able to use the nearly 1,300 CCTV cameras installed at various places in south Mumbai to keep an eye on the first leg of the Mumbai Marathon that starts from south Mumbai. Apart from the cameras, there will be a force of nearly 10,000 policemen who will man the streets of Mumbai this Sunday. Among them will be a few in plainclothes.  Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni said they would also take help of the Quick Response Team and other paramilitary forces to maintain security. “We have requested people to not carry anything along with them,” he said. Police stations along the route have also been alerted to keep an eye on the stretches under their jurisdiction. The entire area around the 42.19-km run stretch has been declared a no-parking zone and a notification to that effect has been issued by the traffic department. Detailed order about parking will be issued too.

Bodies of 2 friends found on rail tracks

Mumbai: The bodies of two friends from Virar were found on the railway tracks between Virar and Vaitarna late Sunday evening. The police have identified the duo as Vicky Jha and Jatin Yadav, both aged 16. The Government Railway Police (GRP) have registered an accidental death report and are probing the case. An officer said the station master had mentioned the cause of death as falling from train. “However, trains are normally not very crowded between Virar and Vaitarna, so we are trying to find out how could two boys fell off the train,” he said. While the families are in a state of shock, some relatives alleged that it was a case of murder. GRP PRO API Ritesh Aher said they were probing the case and in the process to find out what led to the deaths.
