UT approves Sept 4 for student polls,PU yet to declare date

The UT Administration has approved September 4 as the date for elections in the Panjab University. But the PU authorities are yet to declare it.

Talking to Newsline,SP (City) Madhur Verma said,”We are prepared for the campus elections and have approved September 4 as the date. But it is up to the university officials to declare it.”

Dean Students Welfare formally announces the election date after the Vice-Chancellor approves it. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof R C Sobti said,”I have not yet signed the date for elections,but it should be declared in a day or two.” According to the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee,a university must announce the date a week before the elections.

Once the date is announced,the code of conduct would be enforced,prohibiting the use of printed material or conducting rallies for campaigning.
