Textile workers clash with labour office staff

A stalmate between textile workers and industrialists continued on Wednesday as workers continued to sit on dharna outside the labour office. They were supposed to meet Assistant labour commissioner R K Garg,who failed to turn up.

The workers also got into a scuffle with the staff of the labour office while they were drinking water. SHO Shimlapuri Balwinder Singh confirmed the incident and stated that the scuffle started when the labour staff wanted to fill water their bottles.

Lakhwinder Singh,convenor of Karkhana Mazdoor Union,said,“The labour office staff is harassing us for no reason. The officer (R K Garg) did not turn up even after giving an appointment.” The workers are demanding hike in per piece rate for powerloom factories but so far no decision has been made. Workers stated that they will continue the dharna till their demands are met.
