Flees during raid by Vigilance Bureau team; police arrest mediator between SHO and complainant

The Economic Offence Wings (EOW) of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) has booked Doraha Station House Officer (SHO) Baljinder Singh for demanding a bribe from a resident. While the SHO managed to flee from the spot when the VB team swooped down on him,the police have managed to arrest one Gurjeet Singh who was acting as a mediator between the SHO and the complainant.

SSP Snehdeep Sharma informed that this action had been taken after a complaint was lodged by Ranjodh Singh,who runs a chemists’ shop at Chak Gorayan. “He had complained to us that Baljinder Singh had booked his son under a false case. Ranjodh’s son had been booked under the NDPS Act. The SHO claimed that Ranjodh and his son had been selling psychotropic drugs at their shop. But on the day of the raid,Ranjodh’s son was in Ludhiana

The complainant had alleged that the SHO had even taken away their new car and was now demanding a bribe of Rs 5 lakh in lieu of which he had told Ranjodh Singh that he would ensure a safe surrender and later early bail for his son.

When Ranjodh expressed his inability to pay Rs 5 lakh,a deal was stuck at Rs 2 lakh. Ranjodh paid the first installment of Rs 50,000 and was due to pay the second installment. When the SHO demanded more money for releasing his car,he approached the VB.
