Self-help pays off in Focal Point phase-6

When the government machinery failed to deliver the goods, industrialists of Focal Point phase-6 decided to solve their problems on their own by working together.

When the government machinery failed to deliver the goods, industrialists of Focal Point phase-6 decided to solve their problems on their own by working together.

The industrialists started contributing Rs 10,000 each about two years back to clean the surroundings, install streetlights, number plates on all the 120 factories in this phase and even to employ security guards for security of the factories.

Ravi Sharda, one of the industrialists, said,“After contributing Rs 10,000 each, now we are contributing Rs 500 each for paying salaries of security guards and other running expenses. We have also erected gates for security reasons and because of our well thought-out plan, last night, security guards foiled a theft in Apu cycles.”

Sharda said,“Goods worth Rs 2 lakh were being stolen by a group of four thieves last night from this industry when the alert security guards saw them; they followed them and caught hold of one thief along with goods while the rest three ran away. The thief has been handed over to police. We also appeal to other industrialists to start making efforts on their own rather than waiting for official machinery to react.”

He added,“Now streetlights are well managed in our area which also help us in finding anti-social elements during night hours. We never wait for MC team to clean blocked sewer lines. We have purchased our pumping machine worth Rs 40,000 and we call sweepers whenever needed. Garbage removal is also done regularly. Now,roads are being made by MC and after that we will start plantation drive to beautify the area. The system in our area is running in perfect order and we have no time to crib and complain.”

Sharda said,“We have about 10 lanes in this phase and each phase has one incharge who takes care of the problems of that lane. Theft is common in factories during night hours, but we have made an effort to be vigilant and take care of our units ourselves.”
