Looking at rising pollution levels in Ludhiana,the industrial hub of Punjab and the most polluted city of north India,the management committee of Sarabha Nagar has decided to spread awareness campaign regarding environment. To start with they will be organising a flower show on March 4 for which residents and institutes will be encouraged to participate.
It will have sections for potted flowers,foliage plants,succulents,cactii and bonsai. Prizes will be given to the best three in each section. To ensure children participation,painting,competition will be held for age groups of 6 to 14 years and 15 years and above.
This is perhaps the first effort by religious institution to create awareness and enthusiasm among the residents to maintain healthy environment,said president of the management committee Jatinder Singh Sandhu. Earlier,the Gurudwara had also organised a number of awareness lectures on environment.
From next year,Chrysanthemum show will also be held in December and competition will also be extended to the gardens in the residences of Sarabha Nagar. Prizes would be awarded to the best three lawns,with areas upto 250 square yards and 501 and above plots.
