Three unidentified armed robbers fled away with the car from a couple at a gunpoint in Model Town area last night.

Three unidentified armed robbers fled away with the car from a couple at a gunpoint in Model Town area last night.

The incident occurred on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday around 12.30 am. The residents of Cemetery road — Rakesh Puri (55) and wife Geeta Puri — were on their way back home after meeting their daughter at Basant Avenue in Dugri. The police have registered an FIR in this regard.

According to sources,when the couple reached the Marriot Hotel on the Dugri Road,a black Indica overtook their car and one person alighted from the car. The man stopped their car on the pretext of enquiring about the way to Malerkotla. As the unsuspecting couple tried to explain the way,two more persons got off the car with one of them holding a pistol-like object,sources said.

Sources said the trio asked the couple to leave their car. The panicked couple parted with their Swift car and the robbers sped from the spot. Model Town SHO Beant Kumar Juneja told Newsline that on the basis of the victims’ statement,a case had been registered against unidentified persons and investigations were on. The SHO said that the police would also try to get the sketches of the suspect persons made after getting their description from the victims.

Man found dead
The body of a 45-year-old man was found near the railway tracks at the Gill village here today,the GRP said. The person Karnail Singh of Kolar Khurd village had left home in his Scorpio and later his body was recovered from near a rail track while his car was missing from the spot. A case under Section 302,404,201 and 34 of IPC has been registered against unidentified assailants.
