A day after gangster Rocky’s killing took Punjab’s underworld by storm, Facebook remained the platform of choice for owning up to the crime.
On Sunday, Jaipal, a known gangster named by the police as the “prime suspect” for the daylight killing, updated his Facebook status to rubbish all other rival claims to the killing as a “bundle of lies”.
He was referring to the rush on FB to claim the killing by rivals Vicky Gounder, Deep Sandhu, Gurpreet Singh, Ranjodh Jodhan, Neeta Deol, Harshit Jindal and some others.

Jaipal’s claim is buttressed by the fact that of all these, he is the only one not in jail. His FB update at 8 am on Sunday showed him to be in Parwanoo in Himachal Pradesh where the killing took place. Police say he is the “prime suspect” and that they are looking for him. The rest are all serving time in Nabha or Patiala jails.
Jaipal’s FB post says: “Jaswinder Singh @ Rocky of Fazilka was murdered yesterday in Himachal Pradesh. I killed him. All those who are claiming that Dimpy Chandbhan’s son killed him, I want to make it crystal clear that he could not even give statement in the case of his father’s killing. How can he kill [Rocky]?”

Rocky was alleged to have killed rival Dimpy Chandbhan, and Jaipal’s reference is to the son not making a statement against him at the time.
Apart from Chandbhaan’s son, he dismisses “all the rest, who were claiming yesterday that they are the ones who were behind this murder, Rocky was their brother till yesterday.” The post added,” I have cleared doubts of all. Still if there are any doubts left, we will clear those doubts as well.
The status update came with a sting in the tail: “Abhi to khel shuru hua hai. Just wait and watch.”
The gangster claimed to be at Parwanoo, and tagged 35 persons in his post, including one Bholu Havellian.
Said to be in his early 30s, Jaipal is a Ferozepur-based gangster and the son of a retired police sub-inspector Harminder Singh.
Over 20 police cases are pending against him in different police stations of Punjab. Five are in Ferozepur district alone. Minutes before he succumbed to his gunshot wounds, Rocky is said to have told his nephew Harpreet, who was with him in the high-end SUV when it was attacked at the Parwanoo toll plaza, that the attackers were Jaipal’s men.
“Yes, we are aware that Jaipal, a Ferozepur-based gangster, is the prime suspect and he is the most wanted by Ferozepur police as well. One of our teams is already on full-time job to trace him. And they have gone extra alert after this incident,” said Manvinder Vir Singh, SSP, Ferozepur.
The SSP said Jaipal was wanted for the February 2013 murder of a young boy in Kankra village in Ferozepur. He is also an accused in a December 2015 double murder in Ferozepur cantonment.
“He is active for the past 6-7 years and these days he does not come to Ferozepur fearing his arrest,” the police official said.
