PSEB strike brings relief from outages

Eighty four percent staff of Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) in Ludhiana district went on strike protesting against the pending demands and proposed unbundling of PSEB.

Eighty four percent staff of Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) in Ludhiana district went on strike protesting against the pending demands and proposed unbundling of PSEB.

This strike was a part of the state-wide strike of the joint forum of employees. However for consumers,it was a day to relax because no power cut was imposed today. Information revealed that authorities did not return the power to the states like HP,J&K etc today so as to have surplus power today.

It was a precautionary measure taken because majority of the staff was on leave and hence the authorities wanted the system to run smoothly.

Meanwhile, the employees went on strike after their talks failed with the management regarding the wage revision. As per the new wage revision policy, the salaries of many employees will be reducing rather than increasing which has caused resentment among the employees.

Apart from this, job to the family members of the employees who died in harness was a major demand. Proposed unbundling of PSEB was also among the charter of demands, but it had taken a back seat today because the employees were more concerned with their wages problem.

Meanwhile the chief engineer P.S Gill said that the consumers would be given an extra day to deposit power bills in the areas where today was the last date for depositing the bills.
