The process of application to the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) has been made a bit more tedious. A candidate will now have to register online at http://www.ugc.ac.in before April 26 and then submit the printout of the online application form, attendance slip and admission card before April 30.
The UGC-NET for Junior Research Fellowship and eligibility for lectureship is scheduled to be held on June 27,2010. According to the guidelines, before applying online, candidates must have scanned copies of passport size photographs in .jpeg format and a copy of bank challan (fee receipt).
A candidate is required to take a printout of the online application form, attendance slip and admission card, paste his/her recent passport sized photograph, attach an attested copy of SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PH/VH certificate and send it with the UGC-marked copy of bank challan to the coordinator of the UGC test centre, from where the candidate has opted to appear for the test.
In case, the printouts do not reach the test centre on or before April 30,the candidature of the applicant will be rejected. All the printouts should be submitted to UGC-NET coordinator Prof Nahar Singh,Department of Punjabi,Panjab University,Chandigarh,160 014. The office will remain open from 9 am to 5 pm on all working days. Before filling the application forms, candidates must go through the guidelines laid down by the UGC for eligibility.
Experts, however, are of the view that making online registration compulsory will lead to several problems for candidates from rural areas. Students from rural areas, where Internet is not accessible, will suffer. There should have been two parallel systems, said a professor.
