With an aim to provide assistance to non-resident Indians from the region,the Chandigarh Administration has started an NRI Cell in the Sector-17 DC Office. The cell was launched during the Independence Day function at Parade Grounds on Saturday.
UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas said the objective of the cell is to help protect the rights of NRIs in property-related matters,matrimonial and financial matters.
The Administration has assured to cooperate,preserve and grant property rights to the NRIs.
The major concern for married couples is visa delay.
The Administration has also assured of all possible assistance in expediting the documentation process for new NRIs to meet their relatives while abroad. To cater to financial disputes,the UT Administration is putting up a fast track legitimate system for matters pertaining to business,commercial and investment issues. The Administration also has plans afoot to organise a convention NRIs are ambassadors and our guests.
On behalf of the NRI fraternity from the region,Vancouver-based Vikram Bajwa said they will make donations towards charitable projects undertaken by the Administration,including the adoption of village schools under the Education department. Over the next three years,the NRIs have set a target of donating 25 million dollars towards scholarships for rural children,said Bajwa.
