NPS register easy win over St John’s

Hosts New Public School scored a facile win over St John's School,Sector 26 in boy's section on the first day of the Youth State Basketball Championship being held at the New Public School basketball courts,Sector 18 on Monday.

Hosts New Public School scored a facile win over St John’s School,Sector 26 in boy’s section on the first day of the Youth State Basketball Championship being held at the New Public School basketball courts,Sector 18 on Monday.

The hosts overcame heat on a sunny day and they started the onslaught from the beginning which had the opposition players on their toes. NPS players showed great coordination on the court and points just seemed to come easily to them. In the end,the score board said it all. New Public School scored 40 points while St John’s could muster only seven points.

Gurpinder was their standout player for the day as he scored 12 valubale points for his team. Sartaj was also in prime form as he chipped in with nine points. For St John’s,it was Kshitij who did bulk of the scoring with six points.

Meanwhile,in another match of the day,Guru Har Kishan Public School,Sector 8 prevailed over Baptist School,Chandigarh,in a thrilling affair. Guru Har Kishan players were rewarded for holding onto their nerves while Baptist School failed in breaking the shackles which saw them suffer a narrow 22-26 defeat. Rohit chipped in with 11 points for Guru Har Kishan followed by Jagjit who scored eight points. For loosers,it was Rahul and Gaurav who scored nine and six points,respectively.

Meanwhile,in girl’s section,St Xavier’s School,Sector 44 pipped Jawaharlal Nehru Vidyalaya,Sector 25 by one point to win the match by 17-16 points. Mankarvar scored six points while Ezoma and Rozi chipped in with five and four points,respectively. Neetu scored nine points in a losing cause.

Meanwhile,in the last match of the day,St Kabir’s School,Sector 26 outplayed Carmel Convent School,Sector 9 by 28-18 points. Naina was the main scorer for the winning team with eight points followed by Kriti with five points. Roopam scored eight points for the losing Carmel Convent side.
