The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has issued notice to a Delhi-based construction company,TRICON,for leaving projects undertaken by it in various parts of the city incomplete. The company was to construct toilets, drinking water kiosks and small eating joints in select markets.
The company was responsible for maintenance of these places and was allowed to display advertisements to recover the cost. It,however, failed to honour its commitment. Barring empty rooms,it could not provide any other infrastructure. Even as the MC awaits a reply to its notice, the empty rooms are already a potential target for encroachment. In Sarabha Nagar Block I market, this company had plans to make toilets and a room for installation of a water purifier working on reverse osmosis system to provide clean drinking water to the people coming to the market. The company constructed a structure, but failed to fit any toilet accessory. It did not install a water purifier either.
Shopkeepers said the structure had already been occupied by a dosa vendor, who was evicted later as the municipal commissioner intervened. Area councillor Amrit Varsha Rampal added: The contractor had also displayed advertisements on the incomplete structure. A complaint was sent to the municipal commissioner and these were removed.
Similar arrangement was to be made by this company at Rose Garden,Rakh Bagh and a few more markets. A small cafe was constructed at Rose Garden, but without adhering to the original plan.
MC Commissioner A K Sinha said: The contractor has been sent a notice and we have not paid anything to it. Once we cancel the contract of this company after completing formalities, the rooms constructed by it will be MCs property and we will take care of them.
