Protesting against the non-implementation of long pending demands,Punjab mini-bus operators will be on a one day strike on Tuesday. More than 5,500 mini-buses will remain off the roads across the state and operators will be staging a dharna against the state government in Mohali.

State General Secretary of Punjab Mini Bus Operators Association,S S Grewal said,“The CM,transport minister and even officials of transport department had many meetings with us and they had agreed to our demands, but they are not implementing them. So we have no choice but to go on strike.”

Their demands include: To extend the single length route of mini bus from existing 25 km to 50 km; and ‘Adda fees’ (around Rs 25) for every visit to the depot be abolished. Operators state that at times this comes out to Rs 100 per day; Rs 30,000 annual fee be reduced to Rs 15,000 per annum and mini buses be given special route permit.
