The Punjab Government has finally issued a notification for the installation of speed governors in all schools,college,institute and factory vehicles and tourist buses and all goods vehicles. Dr Kamalzit Soi,Vice-Chairman,Punjab Police State Apex Committee (PPSAC) on road safety and traffic management and member of the Punjab State Road Safety Council said although Punjab government has finally issued notification for installation of speed governors in vehicles,yet it is a partial relief. Soi,who is also member of the Punjab State Road Safety Council said,Due to public pressure,Punjab Government has issued notification for installation of speed governors but it is a partial relief as government vehicles like MC tippers/ Garbage lifting vehicles in this notification. He further said that the biggest need was felt for installation of Speed Governors in the Public & Private transport buses & the public transport buses plying on the long routes & in the city areas. He said,These buses are becoming major causes of accidents . These buses are driven at very high speed & are like moving deaths on the road. The MC vehicles and taxis should also be immediately covered under this notification. What is speed a governor?Speed governor,or speed limiter,is a device used to measure and regulate the speed of a machine,such as an engine. The speed governor maintains the maximum speed below 40 kmph or what ever we desire at the time of fixing it in the vehicle. The speed can be programmed only by the company engineer & can not be altered by the driver of the vehicle. The speed governor controls the speed of the vehicle without foregoing the use full engine power. The system consists of an electronic regulator into which the maximum desired speed is encoded.
