Five-day summer camp opens
A five-day summer camp started at Ram Lal Bhasin Public School,Phase I,Dugri on Monday. The workshop ‘5-Stars’ was organised for students where various activities such as food arrangement,candle making and decoration,pot painting,gift wrapping,flower making,fun with needle and thread,calligraphy,food without fire,tile painting,pool party and rain dance etc were organised.

PAU students to visit villages
The students of final year B Sc Agriculture (Hons) programme at PAU will visit three selected villages namely Sarabha,Aboowal and Rattowal of the Pakhowal block of Ludhiana district from June 6-14 to gather information about farming by interacting with farmers. The students groups will visit these villages in three teams each comprising of two teachers of Department of Extension Education. The Head of the Department of Extension Education,Dr B S Dhillon said that the training will provide them with first hand learning experience to undertake various activities performed by field extension workers. The students will also learn to be good communicators with farmers and field workers,said Dr Dhillon.

PAU timings changed due to hot weather
PAU Registrar Dr R K Mahey said the working hours of Punjab Agricultural University will be from 7.15 a m to 2.15 pm (without lunch break) w.e.f. June 1 to July 31. This has been exercised in the wake of high temperature and hot weather conditions prevailing in the region,said Dr Mahey adding that these timings will be observed at all the offices/departments of the university located at Ludhiana and outstation centres. However,the schedule of final examinations shall remain unchanged. He added that the timings of PAU hospital will be from 8 am to 1 pm. (without lunch break) and the hospital shall remain open on all the Saturdays except second Saturday of the month.

Three teachers retire at PAU
The Punjab Agricultural University gave farewell to three teachers namely Dr Inderjit Singh Dhaliwal,Head,Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering,Dr Subhashini Verma,Professor of Foods and Nutrition and Dr Neelam Mahajan,Professor of Extension Education today. The retiring teachers were bid warm send off wishing them a happy retired life and were presented with mementos.

Apollo holds anti-tobacco seminar
To mark the World No Tobacco Day,the department of Pulmonary Medicine at SPS Apollo Hospitals organised a seminar for employees and patient’s attendants on Monday. The theme for World No Tobacco Day 2010 is “Gender and Tobacco with an Emphasis on Marketing to Women.”

According to Dr Akashdeep Singh,consultant pulmonologist who runs tobacco cessation classes in his COPD clinic,Indian women are among the worst in the world when it comes to smoking.
