Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari has issued written orders to all government officers to be present in their respective offices from 10 am to noon to facilitate the public and address their grievances. He also asked officers to make the orders applicable for their subordinates. The DC said the orders,under Section 16 of Punjab Police Act,were issued following complaints that people were being harassed as their works remain pending in the absence of officers. Tiwari said officers will be given relaxation when they have to attend a court hearing or departmental meeting. The DC said he will check compliance of the orders by calling up officers on their landline numbers.

SUV stolen at gunpoint from Sarabha Nagar
Two unidentified youths allegedly stole a SUV in Sarabha Nagar area at gunpoint on Friday afternoon. The police have registered an FIR in the case and a hunt for the boys is on. Surjit Singh,the driver of the car,said: “I was standing beside my car when two boys walked up to me and asked the way to Model Town. As I was explaining them the route,they pushed me to ground,took out a pistol and asked me for car keys.”

LMTMA offers training courses
To combat the problem of unemployment,the Ludhiana Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (LMTMA) has come up with a noble idea to offer job training to youths. A press release stated that trainees will be given Rs 3000 per month initially and an increment after every three months as per their performance. Any subsidy given by Ministry of Labour under the existing rules will also be distributed to the trainees. On completion of the training,the youths will be absorbed in the respective units and will be paid a minimum of Rs 5000 depending upon their performance plus overtime. The decision was taken in a meeting attended by senior vice-president Narinder Singh,vice-president Jagtar Singh and finance secretary Amarjit Singh Sagar.

GADVASU gets new registrar,dean
Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has filled up top posts of the registrar and dean,post graduate studies. Dr Prayag Dutt Juyal,former head,Department of Veterinary Parasitology,is the new registrar while Dr Sarnarinder Singh Randhawa,professor,clinical veterinary medicine,has joined as the dean.

SCD Government College convocation held
Nearly 900 students of SCD Government College received their degrees at the annual convocation organised on Friday. Jasmit Kaur Nayyar,DPI (Colleges),Punjab,was the chief guest.
