More number of women volunteer for blood donation
Despite health constraints,women in the district have started coming forward to donate blood. The number of women donors is increasing by the day as witnessed by paramedics in the city and the surrounding areas.

Dr Amarjit Kaur,Head of Transfusion Medicine (blood donation),Department of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital,Ludhiana,said,The voluntary blood donation is 100 per cent from women. Recently,an NGO had organised a blood-donation camp and out of 314 units,122 were collected from women.

Dr Amarjit said,I always come across a heavy rush of female donors. And I have seen that women and girls from the rural areas have more haemoglobin that their urban counterparts.

BSP members meet accused in jail
A few members of the Bahujan Samaj Party members met the persons lodged in jail,who were arrested who were arrested on charges of rioting in the city on December 3 and 4. Avtar Singh Kareempuri,state member said,Most of them were innocent and they have been picked from their houses. Boys of less than 15 years of age have been sent to jail on wrong charges and even they were beaten up mercilessly,he alleged. About 38 such persons were in the jail,he added. He said that the real culprits had not been arrested. The party appealed that affected persons should be given justice soon.

Eye camp held in Goslan village
The IMA,Ludhiana,organised an eye camp at Goslan village in Ludhiana on Monday. The camp was sponsored by the Canadian Eyesight Global. A team of doctors from CMC&H Dr Gurvinder Kaur,Dr Neha examined 343 patients . On the behalf of Canadian Eyesight Global Jaswant Singh Matharoo,Gurnam Kaur Matharoom also attended the camp. Dr Arun Mitra,Vice-President,IMA,Punjab,addressed the gathering and stressed on the need for prevention of diseases.
