High Court lifts stay on Southern By-Pass construction

In a significant development, the Punjab and Haryana High Court lifted the stay over the completion of Southern By-Pass in Ludhiana.

In a significant development, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today lifted the stay over the completion of Southern By-Pass in Ludhiana. The construction of two missing links for the road connecting Ferozepur road with Southern By-Pass was stayed after few residents of Ludhiana had moved the High Court terming the acquisition of land for constructing the road as illegal.

Taking note of the contentions, the High Court had stayed the construction. During the resumed hearing of the case today,Additional Advocate General (AAG) Rupinder Singh Khosla opposed the petition and defended the acquisition made by the government.

A division bench comprising Justice Jasbir Singh and Justice R K Garg today dismissed the petition challenging the acquisition. In order to decrease traffic congestion, the Punjab government had proposed to set up 200 ft wide road connecting Ferozepur road with southern bypass.
