Heat wave causes allergies,stay away from sun: Experts

Nasal allergies,severe headaches,bodyaches along with fever. This is what city residents have been complaining of as temperature heads northward in the region. Patients are pouring in the city clinics and hospitals complaining of ailments related to summer,which also includes dehydration and heat stroke.

Dr Raju Singh Chhina,Medical Superintendent,Dayanand Medical College and Hospital,said,“People are taken ill after consuming unhygienic food. Most of the times,we get cases of food poisoning. If one gets dehydrated then,one should drink sufficient water or it could lead to renal failure. Each one of us should drink at least 8 to 14 glasses of water every day. One should avoid going in the sun and wear cotton clothes,” he added.

While Dr Sunil Aggarwal,a city based Homeopath,said,“Hot wave leads to nasal allergies,high temperature and bodyaches. One should avoid direct exposure with the sun.”

Meanwhile,Deputy Commissioner Vikas Garg is yet to issue instructions to schools for reducing school hours due to the inclement weather.

However,the district health department has started issuing instructions keeping the summer in mind. Dr S S Dhir,District Health Officer,Ludhiana,said,“We have started education awareness programme in schools. We are giving tips to students on how to combat hot weather and how to save oneself from diseases like gastroenteritis. We have covered around 100 schools in the district.”

“We advise students to go outside with their heads covered in a damp cloth,use umbrella under the open sky,taking a lot of salty water to avoid dehydration and drink clean water,” he said.

* Use umbrellas or put wet cloth over the head while in the sun
* Drink 8 to 14 glasses of water every day to keep the body sufficiently hydrated
