GLADA employees start chain hunger strike

GLADA chief administrator R K Verma has written a letter to the state government,spelling out the demands of the employees.

The employees of the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA),a body under the Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA),began a chain hunger strike at GLADA office on Tuesday.

“We have several demands. If they are not met,we will not resume work. First,only half of the employees get pension and others do not. Same is the condition of plot allotment for PUDA employees and only half of us have got plots till now. Forty-five employees on a daily basis and 30 on a contract basis are still waiting for their regularisation. Extension of retirement age from 58 to 60 has still not been applied to PUDA,” said Rajinder Singh,convener of Ludhiana branch of the PUDA Employees’ Taalmel Sangharsh Committee,talking to Newsline.

He added that either all these demands should be met at the earliest or employees of GLADA would not return to work.

Reportedly,GLADA chief administrator R K Verma has written a letter to the state government,

stating demands of employees and asking for appropriate action.
