Targeting MP Manish Tiwari,Cabinet Minister Hira Singh Gabria again entered into a credit war today over the Rs 3.2 crore Ludhiana Integrated Tourism Project. Tiwari had repeatedly claimed that he got this project sanctioned for the beautification of Ludhiana and Rs 2.42 crore were also released by the Tourism Department for the state government in February. However, not even a penny has been spent on any of the projects sanctioned.

Gabria, today said,“The money reached us only two months ago and it is being spent only on projects for which the state government had made a detailed report. The MP is making false claims that the money reached in February and that he has gotten the projects sanctioned. In fact,I myself had had repeated meetings with Delhi tourism officials. So just to get cheap publicity,MP Tiwari is falsely stating that the Punjab government is misusing the funds.”

However,Tiwari categorically stated that Tourism Minister Kumari Selja had also written to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal asking him to give details of the funds released to the state government. “The letter of the tourism minister is enough proof that the state is sitting over the funds of the Centre and it is news for me that the money reached the state only two months ago,” Tiwari said.

The project was sanctioned in December last year. According to the Cabinet minister, tenders will be called this month and the work will be completed in six months.

The funds are for beautification of Clock Tower,Rakh Bagh,Rose Garden and Mukteshwar Mandir. Tourist Information centres will also be established near the Clock Tower and bus stand.

An open air theatre will be made in the Rose Garden. The house of martyr Sukhdev Singh will also be renovated for which Rs 20 lakh will be spent. Many other facilities will also be added.
