This ones for a change. The result of a self-imposed break, unwinds singer Sunali Rathod as she proudly presents the Rathods latest album,Mann Pasand. And it really is all our favourites,songs that are full of masti,nothing very serious,just simple easy listening coupled with simple poetry, Sunali and Roop Kumar Rathod have played on the feel good factor and produced an album which,according to them,is best when played during long drives. Its a compilation especially for todays overworked,stressed out youth who are plugged in to only western beats. Play this,and youll instantly feel relaxed, Sunali almost sounds like a music-yoga teacher,tapping on that right connection.
Hummable tunes backed with rhythm and lyrical motion and foot tapping music,thats how Sunali describes their album whose musics been given by Ranjit Barot,who also turns a rapper in this album. The kind of musical expertise Barot has,this music will appeal to international listeners as well, she feels. But its once again the youth point that gets her talking. Our basic concern was that children are shying away from Indian music. Except Bollywood and western,they hardly listen to anything else. Indian music doesnt end at Bollywood, she comments. Both Roop ji and I are serious students of Indian classical music,and we would love to sing all classic poets,do traditional albums…but we felt the need of the hour is light music,something which everyone can relate to and yet enjoy the classical touch to it, Sunalis moved ahead with times but still feels that it takes more than a lifetime to learn music.
Meanwhile,the album taps on all emotions,and compositions come straight from the heart. If we can produce music that springs from the heart then that is our greatest achievement, Sunali wraps up.
