ADC(D) Dr Rishipal Sidhu, who conducted the special drive, said: The Administration took about 18 months to clear this land of all encroachments as a number of times our teams had to retreat in face of protests by villagers. But today the villagers and even the sarpanch cooperated.
The ADC (D) informed that the land was being used to harvest paddy, but will now be utilised for social forestry to increase green cover. The land will also be used to grow fodder, which can be used by families who own animals. The idea is not to earn income out of this, but to make life styles of the poor a little better, he added.
