Learning Language is a novel way to learn Indian languages and connect to ones roots
It is aimed at improving lingual skills and using language as a medium to connect Indians with their roots. The format is digital and the means is an application available on the I-Phone and android phones. People behind the process are Chandigarh-based Sandeep Chauhan,Cheena and Rajiv Kaul.
Last month,the trio introduced a mobile application,Learning Language,that promises to make users proficient in four Indian languages Punjabi,Hindi,Gujarati and Bengali. Its the digital generation and there is a lot of learning and reading on laptops and phones,which makes the entire process fun. There is a big demand for such applications from non-resident Indians who want their children to learn their mother tongue, says Chauhan.
While there are plans to diversify the reach of the application and allow for its downloading on other platforms,Learning Language includes alphabets,numbers and a vocabulary of 400 commonly-used words. The Joining the Dots format is used. The number,alphabet or word first appears on the screen,accompanied by the pronunciation. It is followed by the appearance of several dots on the screen,which the users need to join to form the same alphabet,number or word.
The screen has attractive colours and an uncluttered look,with limited features,clear sounds,non-intrusive design,large numbers and alphabets. There is an instant connect with the user, says Cheena.
The trio is now devising educational applications to make math fun. The idea is to make learning addictive and not a chore; and doing it right the first time,so that there is no unlearning to do, says Chauhan.
