Dengue larva found at 8 places but MC issues no challan

According to sources, most of the times residents never accept any challlans. Therefore, the MC staff send challans through court.

While dengue larvae are being detected in different parts of the city during the visit of the health teams,so far no one has been challaned by the municipal corporation authorities.

In the past two days, larvae were found at eight houses in the Housing Board Colony,Ambedkar Nagar and Giaspura. But the MC teams have failed to issue them challans.

According to sources, most of the times residents never accept any challlans. Therefore, the MC staff send challans through court which decides fine for such violations. There is no on-the-spot fine by the MC authorities.

While till now not even a single such challan has been presented through court, especially in cases where larva causing dengue fever has been found, the health authorities maintain that they always intimate the MC sanitation wing so that challans can be issued.

Meanwhile, till now 450 dengue cases and two dengue deaths (one from Jagraon and another from Ludhiana) have been confirmed. Nine more suspected deaths have also been reported but the patients were having problems other than dengue as well, said Dr Anil Verma, district epidemiologist. That’s why they cannot be labelled as dengue patients.

He said they had intimated the MC sanitation wing about the houses where larvae were found, and now it was the duty of the sanitation wing of the municipal corporation to take next steps.

On Tuesday,73 coolers and 102 containers were checked. Out of these, larvae were found in six coolers and containers. On Wednesday, larvae were found in two low-lying areas. While 14 patients from Ludhiana were confirmed as dengue patients on Tuesday, the number stood at 25 on Wednesday.
