In an important decision, the District Bar Association (DBA) has prohibited the double voting rights of some of its members who are the members of some other Bar associations as well.
This decision was taken at a general house meeeting of the DBA held here today. The meeting had been convened on the issue of voting rights of the advocates who are also members of the Taxation or Revenue Bar Associations. Two advocates,Ankur Ghai and Mohit Goel, had given a requisition for this meeting and this requisition had been signed by over 270 votes. The requisition read that out of about 1700 DBA members, the bar had a sizeable number of the advocates who were either the Taxation or the Revnue Bar members also.
Those who had given this requisition had stated that while other bar associations did not allow the DBA members to vote for their association elections, the voting rights of the other bar members should also be banned.
After noisy scenes, finally a majority of the general house meeting decided that no advocate can cast his vote simultaneously with more than one Bar association. The majority decided that an advocate can cast his vote only for one Bar association.
