While more than 2,500 files of riot victims are still being investigated by the Vigilance Bureau,Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has sent another request to Union Home minister P Chidambaram seeking more time to make red cards of the left-out riot victims.
It needs to be mentioned that from 1984 onwards, riot victims have got around 26,000 red cards made across the state on the basis of which they have been given Rs 2 lakh grant among other benefits. The latest cards were made last year which were around 2,100 in Ludhiana alone. However in June,a faction of Danga Peerat Society had complained that fake victims were getting the cards made and they had even asked the Union Home minister to probe the matter.
The Vigilance had reportedly caught a clerk red-handed who had taken money from one of the victims for clearing the file, which had many discrepancies. At the moment,2500 files are with VB which are being investigated.
R S Brar,DSP,VB,confirmed the ongoing probe. He said,We are verifying the facts because the residence proof of the person and the documents attached are being checked. We are yet to arrive at a conclusion.
However, two months have passed but the department is not yet able to divulge any information but Brar confirmed loopholes.
Surjit Singh,President,Danga Peerat Welfare Society, said,I am sure all files will be having no shortcoming. A few anti-social elements registered wrong complaints against their own faction.
Singh, however said,Infact more than 6,000 persons have still not been given benefits in the entire state till date and hence we had sent a letter to the CM to get the date extended for making red cards and the CM has forwarded the same to Chidambaram. We have been told this during our last week review meeting at Chandigarh.
