Powercom to give new connections in mixed land use areas
Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has done away with the condition of obtaining a no-objection certificate in mixed land use areas to get a new power connection. A total of 95 types of industries which come in the green category will benefit from the decision,said Hira Singh Gabria,Cabinet Minister,while addressing a meeting of industrialists in the city on Monday.
The NoC was being sought from the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) before seeking the new electricity connection and even for enhancing the load. Industrialists have welcomed this move and have stated that it will help in expansion of the units which were lying pending since long.
PTU V-C interacts with foreign students
Twenty-nine foreign students from four countries joined the total of 56 foreign students of PCTE Group of Institutes in the academic session of 2010. Punjab Technical University Vice-Chancellor Dr Rajneesh Arora came to visit the foreign students and interacted with them. Dr Keya Dharamvir,Dean International Affairs,Panjab University,Chandigarh also joined the V-C and the students in the afternoon.
Dr K N S Kang,Director General,PCTE Group of Institutes,said the foreign students were from four different nations,namely Mozambique,Zimbabwe,Tanzania,and Afghanistan. There were students from Uganda,Rwanda,Cameroon,Tanzania,Mozambique,Afghanistan,and Zimbabwe already studying at PCTE. He added that students had joined various courses including MBA,MBA-IB,M.Sc. IT,BBA,BCA,and B Pharmacy.
Vet varsity to hold Pashu Palan Mela from September 15
Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU),Ludhiana,will organize Pashu Palan Mela on September 15. This year the university is dedicating mela to the slogan Vigayanak Taknikan Apnao,Pashu Palan Ton Munafa Vadhao.
While briefing about the mela,Dr V K Taneja,Vice-Chancellor,GADVASU,said,We are conducting a number of efforts to explore the new avenues in livestock professions. Anybody can do livestock related professions in professional manner with a limited Capital. University will always be at their service to provide training and marketing tips. Dr Kulbir Singh Sandhu,Director of Extension Education,GADVASU said that the varsitys elite animals will be exhibited to motivate the farmers to breed superior livestock by getting the improved germplam from the University. Books on Dairy Farming,Pig Farming,Goat Farming and Package of Practices for Animal Husbandry will also be available to the farmers.
Noted veterinarian passes away
Eminent veterinary scientist,Dr B S Gill,the former dean of College of Veterinary Science of PAU,Ludhiana,passed away on September 4. Bhog of Sri akhand path sahib,kept in his memory will take place on September 12 at Gurdawara Sahib Agar Nagar. Dr Gill was the dean for two consequent terms 1974 to 1982 and was the special director of research till December 1985. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
Dance show held
An enthralling dance show was staged by Saroj Khan Dance Academy in Ludhiana on Monday. The performance was a combination of solo and group dance.
Teachers Day celebrated
Guru Nanak International Public School celebrated Teachers Day with fervor on Monday. The programme was presided over by school director P Kahlon and principal Gurmant Kaur Gill. Gifts were distributed among teachers by the management. To convey their gratitude to seniors,freshers of the Government College for Women organised a thanksgiving function and Teachers Day in the college. A cultural programme was organised on the occasion.
Meanwhile,Sacred Heart School in BRS Nagar presented a gala function to celebrate the Teachers Day. The function kicked off with the recital of a poem in the praise of teachers. A speech was delivered to welcome the teachers and acknowledging their role. Prayer dance marked the beginning of the programme followed by the recital of a song by the students of Class VI.
