Assault on officer: NGO asks DC to act
Ludhiana: The Council of RTI Activists has requested Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari to intervene in the case pertaining to alleged manhandling of the district health officer. In a letter to the DC,the NGO has asked him to take strict action against a shopkeeper who allegedly manhandled Dr Jagpal Singh when he was collecting food samples from his shop in Janakpuri last week. The NGO said the shopkeeper,along with political representatives,stopped the DHO from discharging his duty. Rohit Sabharwal of the council said: The DHO brought the matter to the notice of police and health department,but no one took any action against the accused.
312 students conferred degrees
Ludhiana: As many as 312 students were conferred degrees during the annual convocation of Guru Nanak National College,Doraha,on Monday. Chief guest Major Bhupinder Singh Dhillon,Political Secretary to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal,congratulated the institution for its performance and announced a grant of Rs 5 lakhs for development work. Professor Pirthipal Singh Kapur,former pro-vice-chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University,Amritsar,appreciated the colleges efforts in spreading education among girls in rural areas.
Yoga camp held
Ludhiana: A three-day Yoga camp organised by Swami Ramdevs Patanjali Yog Samiti and Bharat Swabhiman was concluded on Sunday. A team headed by Senior Medical Officer Dr U S Sooch examined the participants for diabetes,blood pressure and obesity. Out of the 62 participants checked,32 were diagnosed with these problems. Full records of these patients are to be maintained,and their improvement assessed, said organising secretary Darshan Singh Shankar.
